Chess is a strategic board game designed for two players. The game is played on a square board consisting of 64 smaller squares, with eight squares on each side. At the beginning of the game, each player is equipped with sixteen pieces, including pawns, knights, bishops, rooks, a queen, and a king. The ultimate objective is to strategically position pieces to place the opponent's king in a situation called checkmate, where no move can save the king and the game concludes.

Players take alternate turns moving their pieces to different squares on the board. One player, known as 'White,' controls pieces of a light color, while the other player, 'Black,' plays with pieces of a dark color. Each piece has specific rules for movement, capturing opponent's pieces, and contributing to the overall strategy of the game. White enjoys a slight advantage as they make the first move, leading to more frequent wins in competitive tournament settings.
